Mission Critical Data Centre.

The nature of a mission critical data centre, typically housing data for Government and large corporate clients means all risks associated with reliable backup generator power need to be mitigated to ensure continuity of service.

The Challenge

The nature of a mission critical data centre, typically housing data for Government and large corporate clients means all risks associated with reliable backup generator power need to be mitigated to ensure continuity of service.

Stored diesel fuel is susceptible to microbial contamination (often referred to as “Diesel Bug”) due to the unavoidable presence of water and bacteria.

It is vital that the elements which cause contamination are removed to ensure generators receive pristine fuel at all times. Traditional treatments rely on the use of biocides can lead to the development of resistant strains of bacteria.

Left unmanaged, backup power failure can result in irrecoverable loss and disruption to business continuity. ECL Group was commissioned to install their FuelTender system to mitigate this risk.

ECL Group Solution

Fuel polishing equipment was installed to remove the causes of contamination on a permanent basis. The unit cycles fuel removing water, particulates and destroy the bacteria, yeasts and fungi to remove the risk of contamination.

This customers site has 3 x 1.8 MW Caterpillar V16 Generators with the ECL installed fuel polishing equipment to protect each 20,000 litre storage facility, ensuring pristine fuel is available at all times.

Critical Outcome

Independent laboratory tests fully validate the systems performance to provide an assurance of contaminant free fuel and reliable generator running.

As a critical service provider, ECL Group Fuel Systems can be relied on to provide proven solutions to clients fuel management needs.

Mobil Oil Recovers From Devastating Earthquakes.

Following the devastating Christchurch earthquakes, Mobil Oil New Zealand called upon ECL Group’s expertise to upgrade the damaged fuel and drainage systems at several sites.

The Challenge

Following the devastating Christchurch earthquakes, Mobil Oil New Zealand called upon ECL Group’s expertise to upgrade the damaged fuel and drainage systems at several sites.

While working on the project, ECL Group had to overcome extreme earthquake conditions such as severe liquefaction, drain sediment, changes to the water table and on-going aftershocks.

Liquefaction containing potentially harmful contaminants had to be removed from sites.

The projects required careful planning and execution to meet strict council consent conditions, minimise disruption to traffic, and maintain public safety.

ECL Group Solution

Two Mobil Service Stations required complete replacement. ECL Group were firstly involved in decommissioning the site, removing all fuels equipment, tanks, lines and dispensers.

A complete design/ build solution was provided.

Given the risk of continued seismic activity during installation a one metre deep concrete slab was poured to stabilise the petrol tanks and prevent future movement.

Three 50,000 litre fuel storage tanks were installed. Submersible pumps, fuel lines, dispensers, drainage and all electrical componentry were completely upgraded.

Forecourts were reinstated, with new tank slabs and asphalt to all affected areas.

The damage was so severe at one site it became an environmental risk. The decision was taken for ECL Group to completely decommission the site and reinstate the ground.

Outcome

These projects were extremely challenging given the high risk environment that existed in Christchurch at the time. The ECL Group delivered a solution that ensured the Mobil retail operations were again able to operate in the Canterbury region.

Z Energy implements world class POS System.

Triquestra and ECL Group join forces to support companies seeking continuous innovation of the customer experience.

The Challenge

Z Energy is the first company to benefit from the Triquestra and ECL Group partnership. With ECL Group as its technology install and support partner, Z have completed the rollout of Triquestra’s Infinity retail management system to its 200 Z branded retail sites across New Zealand.

ECL Group Solution

ECL Group undertook staging, testing and installation of the system. The platform was designed to allow Z to be more customer responsive and innovative, while achieving more efficient operating costs.

ECL Group General Manager, Andrew Pearce, said the partnership with Triquestra offers a collaborative and outcome-focused approach for clients, with well-planned and executed services as demonstrated by the success of the Z rollout.

Z continue to be impressed by the high level of software quality of Infinity both in terms of the core product and customisations, and are looking forward to working with Triquestra and ECL Group on an exciting roadmap of future initiatives.

Seamless implementation was required with zero impact on trading activities. The focus of system design was to radically improve the customer experience at Z Energy sites.

Critical Outcome

Infinity gives Z the ability to manage its 60 million transactions annually across 360 point of sale lanes more effectively, working with front-line staff to make serving customers even easier.

Z Site Systems Manager, Vance Anderson, said ECL Group and Triquestra developed an upgrade process which minimised site downtime, in many cases to less than one hour.

“For a technology replacement project of this scale and complexity, the upgrade has been incredibly smooth,” he said. “Our site staff love the new system, particularly the speed with which they were able to hit the ground running with using the POS.”

Integral to the success of the Z rollout was Triquestra’s training of ECL Group technicians as Infinity Certified Engineers.

The newly-formed partnership enables ECL Group to provide their clients with a fully-integrated deployment and first level support across Australia and New Zealand.
